Military Appreciation Month Kicks Off

May 1st is the kick off for Military Appreciation Month. At eMOM we celebrate, support and appreciate our Military every day, but May is the perfect time for us all to come together for for 31 days to show our troops how much we appreciate what they do.

Here are some great ways to do something special for our Military:

  1. Send a postcard from your hometown to our troops
  2. Send cards to hospitalized veterans, wounded warriors or those living in veteran homes
  3. Fly your flag at home and at the office
  4. Urge your community to fly the flag from May 1 through Flag Day, June 14
  5. Support your favorite military support organization monitarily
  6. Thank a Veteran
  7. Shake a military service member's hand
  8. Support our military using your blog, twitter or other social networking accounts
  9. Write a guest post on why you think it's important to support our troops
  10. Post a message of support to our troops on our Facebook Group, FanPage or Cause
  11. Make a tribute video to our troops and upload it to YouTube (Let us know when you do!)
  12. Create a video message thanking our troops using Seesmic, Vimeo, 12 seconds, etc. (Let us know when you do!)
  13. Design a button or badge to be used on blogs and website and we may feature it here
  14. Hold a troop support party where you and your friends dress in RW&B and write letters of thanks to our troops. Snap photos and we'll blog them and include them on Flickr. Send your letters to us and we'll send them to our troops!
  15. Visit your local USO and ask how you can volunteer
  16. Volunteer with eMail Our Military
  17. Volunteer with you favorite military support or veteran's organization
  18. Volunteer at your local VFW
  19. Visit Veterans hospitals
  20. Start a welcoming/send off committee at your local airport for returning or deploying troops
  21. Have your church host a veterans appreciation day
  22. Get your company to support the troops with military discounts or freeebies
  23. Take an ad out in your community newspaper stating you support your hometown heroes
  24. Encourage your local radio and news stations to recognize National Military Appreciation Month
  25. Offer a military spouse a helping hand while their husband or wife is deployed
  26. Create a large poster in appreciation signed by your company, school or church and it to your nearest VA medical center
  27. Call or email your representative and ask them to sponser the new National Military Appreciation Month Concurrent Resolution (H.CON.RES 84)
  28. Send us your ideas for supporting our military and we might add them to the list

These are just a few ideas to get your creative juices flowing. No matter what you do or how you do it, just have a great time showing our troops how much they are appreciated!

Hey - what about wearing RED on FRIDAYS? This is not my idea - it was forwarded to me, and since I've started talking about it, have heard many companies have started promoting it internally, and others are well aware of this effort. Hope you'll support it, too!
