Veterans Day Book Giveaway

At eMail Our Military we support our troops but what you may not know is that we're quite passionate about supporting our veterans too, in many different ways. That's why when we met Joe Gillan, an author and Army Veteran from the Vietnam War era, we knew he was going to be an amazing person to learn more about.

The more we got to know Joe, the more we loved him. We thought one great way to show our support for a veteran who had just released his first novel was to share a little about him here and do a fun book giveaway, in honor of all our Veterans this Veterans Day.

"Joe is fascinating. He's one of those people you just know has been there and done that and has some great stories to tell. We wish him nothing but success." said eMail Our Military's President, Trish Forant.

Joe is a dad, a marathon runner, a retired business executive, a former sports writer and the vice-chairman of the Florida Advocacy Council for special needs citizens. He's a passionate patriot and we encourage you to show your support to him and all of America's Veterans on Veterans Day and always.

Joe's book, "Just Before the Dawn" is, in many ways, designed to be an elegy for lost chances. Though the book isn't military related it's a great read that 5 lucky winners will have the chance to enjoy. That's right we're giving away five (5) copies of Joe Gillian's "Just Before the Dawn" and you have a chance to win one!

You can read an excerpt from "Just Before the Dawn" here.

There are three ways to enter to win. You'll receive one entry for each action:

  1. Follow @JoeGillan on Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/JoeGillan (don't forget to send him an @ and say hello)
  2. Become a fan on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/JosephAGillan
  3. Leave a comment on this blog post & let us know if you have a military connection. Are you a veteran, a spouse, etc. or a military supporter.

Contest ends on 11/16. One winner will be chosen by email Our Military and announced on 11/23. Have fun and good luck!

I am a veteran, having served in the United States Navy as a Sonar Technician on USS James K. Polk, SSBN 645, a ballistic missile submarine. I fully support our troops, and want them home safely!

I've always been a huge supporter of the military and our veterans, in fact I had delayed enlisted as a Senior in high school, but unfortunately for my military career I got pregnant before I was to leave for boot camp (a mixed regret I've always lived with). My father is a veteran (Vietnam era)who went on to be a police officer in Flint, MI, my brother was in the Army-discharged on medical, My ex husband is Retired Army & our son is (obviously) technically military family. My Grandfather graduated from Howe Military School in Howe, Indiana & while he recently passed away, he was so very proud of that experience-I can't tell you why he never went into the military but I know that he always wished he could have.

While I do my best for as many charities as I can (being a cancer survivor I of course advocate for those types of charities as well)-One of the charities I have advocated for the most & the longest, as does my father, is the Paralyzed Veterans of America. While I don't have much money being disabled, I do send them money every chance I get. I live near the Bay Pines VA Complex/Hospital here in St. Petersburg, FL & I spend every Veterans & Memorial Day just walking the grounds, especially at the cemetary where my parents will one day be buried (in the cremains section). The beauty there, which some think I'm odd for thinking a cemetary is beautiful, but it's just amazing, especially when the boy scout troops come through and place little American flags at every single grave marker there (there must be 10's of thousands?. The bells toll the songs of every military branch which I love to sit under this one specific tree and listen to (& at times sing along with quietly) those bells toll for all that are resting there and presently serving.

I fully support all of our troops, but I have to admit that being disabled myself I tend to gravitate toward the disabled vets more as far as being able to relate to them even just a little bit. My hope is that one day I can be of much bigger help for them & their families, in some way or other, but for now I can only do what I can do & that is to support them and all of our men & women in uniform to the best of my ability, & encourage others to do the same.

Happy Veterans Day to all of our men & women in uniform! We honor your service, as well as the sacrifices you and your families have to make because of your choice to defend the freedom of America-which we all know surely needs it now more than ever! God Bless each and every one of you -& your families/wives/parents/children, etc-for what you do for our beloved country!

(P.S.-I would absolutely love to read your book if I am lucky enough to be chosen!) =)

This sounds like a great resource! I am a Navy wife, my husband deploys to Iraq after the holidays so I am looking for materials to help me understand/get through the tough times.
